Often at school, squid are an important link in the ocean food chain and some species are edible for humans. They are therefore of considerable commercial importance and are among the species that have a rapid growth, a great prolificity and whose global populations have been increasing on a global scale since the 1950s. Along with jellyfish, cuttlefish and octopus, squid seem to adapt well to the degradation of the marine environment to the detriment of other species and as long as their optimal living conditions are not exceeded.
