Wild silk called Eri, coming from Erinda, the Hindi name for the castor bean that its butterfly feeds on. The cocoon is naturally open for caterpillar metamorphosis.Silk is therefore harvested non-violently, without killing the chrysalis, and is thus used by many Buddhist monks. High-quality craftsmanship combines the work of breeders, women who spin silk, and artisans weaving on handlooms in the far north-east of India. The fineness of Eri silk and the artisanal weaving technique offer a great variety of weaving.
