The cocoon is naturally open for caterpillar metamorphosis.Silk is therefore harvested non-violently, without killing the chrysalis, and is thus used by many Buddhist monks. High-quality craftsmanship combines the work of breeders, women who spin silk, and artisans weaving on handlooms in the far north-east of India.
