Sculptures, statuettes and miniatures - Namji doll, Cameroon - QUINTESSENCE AFRICAINE

Product description

Namji dolls are handcrafted creations originating from the Namji (or Dowayo) people of northern Cameroon. These traditional dolls are much more than simple decorative objects: they are deeply rooted in the beliefs and cultural practices of this ethnic group. These dolls were mainly used as fertility talismans. They were offered to young girls to prepare them for their role as mothers and to attract the blessing of motherhood. They often represent female figures, stylized with a touch of abstraction which highlights their beauty and elegance. Young girls sometimes carried these dolls on their backs, like a child, as a sign of preparation for motherhood. Today, they are also appreciated for their artistic and aesthetic value. With their timeless charm, these dolls find their place in modern or traditional interiors, adding a cultural touch and a fascinating history to the space they decorate. Dimensions: Height: 35cm Materials: wood, cowries, pearls
