This Astrolabe is based on one made by G. Hartmann who was a “Renaissance man”. In Nuremberg by 1523, he was at the head of a successful workshop that specialized in scientific instruments, including sundials, astrolabes, quadrants and astronomical and astrological compendiums.His remarkable production, like an early system of mass production, made him, probably, the most prolific instrument maker in the first half of the sixteenth century. The original astrolabe is at London´s British Museum. This one is functional and is set for 50º.We have many other astrolabes in our colletion.
